When I was a child, my family moved quite often around villages in Buckinghamshire. Changing schools frequently and living surrounded by fields to play in meant that I lived a lot in my imagination. By the time we moved to Northampton I’d already written several plays and ‘novels’, largely inspired by Dr Who and The Man from Uncle. On leaving school, I got a ‘proper’ job, but continued to write. Stephen Dedman is the author of four novels, a non-fiction book and more than 100 short stories, plus reviews, role-playing games, stageplays, essays and editorials. Most of the fiction he’s written has been speculative, fantastic, or just plain weird, but he’s also written thrillers, erotica, and westerns. Sometimes all at the same time.
Maria Deira grew up in the high desert of Eastern Oregon but now lives in the cozy gloom of the Willamette Valley. Her fiction has been published in A cappella Zoo, Fiction Southeast, Word Riot, GigaNotoSaurus, and Strange Horizons. She’s currently working on a novel.

S.L. Dennis was an English writer active in the early 20th century who is best known for The Second Awakening of a Magician, which was also published in the 1931 anthology, ‘Great Short Stories of Detection, Mystery and Horror, 2nd Series,’ edited by famous writer of detective fiction, Dorothy L. Sayers.
August William Derleth was born in 1909 in Sauk City, Wisconsin, where he spent most of his life. He sold his first story to Weird Tales at the age of seventeen, in 1926, and contributed prolifically to that pulp magazine for much of its run. Also in 1926, he came into contact with H. P. Lovecraft, whose influence upon his work would be decisive. Corresponding prolifically with Lovecraft, he became acquainted with many of Lovecraft’s colleagues, including Donald Wandrei, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert E. Howard. After Lovecraft’s death in 1937, Derleth and Wandrei established the publishing firm of Arkham House to issue Lovecraft’s tales in hardcover; Arkham House would become the most prestigious small-press publisher of supernatural fiction in the United States.
