I’m not sure why the rss feed spat up this older story again recently but I’m glad it did. I loved the continual switching between the crazy axe-murdering shit and the narrator’s lifestyle problems.

I liked the story for the most part. I want to know: Where is the REAL hard, dark, scary as hell horror?! I mean the comedy infused stuff was pretty novel to me at first…. But I want some really dark and menacing horror with no irony, humor, or irreverence, and espcially no smug narrator. But- it was a cool story, not horror

Once again, a really nice opportunity to have a really creepy and horrific ending ruined by the after school special treatment where we have our protag surviving and planning his future after having shed the dead weight of his friend and girlfriend.

He should have died. Or, he should have gone apeshit crazy in traffic going on about his own diversified portfolio.

There was nothing in the conclusion of this story that left me with a feeling of horror. The tension and the fear from the axe-wielding maniac was decent, but the payoff was a let down.

Yes, Mr. El Camino’s crazed ramblings were great. He reminded me a lot of the maitre d’ in Stephen King’s “Lunch at the Gotham Cafe”.

Though it's a quibble I agree with David that I'm kinda curious if this birthday broke the tradition. In an odd way, surviving this event is a pretty good gift.

Liked the ending, but the people suck argument is a pretty old one in this genre. Never did mention how his subsequent birthdays turned out, seemed like a but of a hole in the plot.

Wish you'd done a little something to commemorate the holidays.

Great story with very vivid descriptions. Loved the narrator’s voice also. I’ve always wondered what other people are doing and/or thinking every time I look into the rear view mirror. Maybe next time I won’t be so curious. Cha-Ching!!!!!
