All I have to say is that they missed a great gag: Mara (As Jessica Rabbit): “So, is there anything special you want?”

After the story went on I can see why a woman read the story.

It was a nice variation on the succubus theme.

I am learning to multi-task by listening to your wonderful stories while writing code on one page, learning code in my studies with phoenix university, answering emails and the phone. The only bad thing is I missed the end often and have to zip the story back a few centimeters. I must learn to multi-task better! Thanks!

Did I lust Leann’s reading? Damn skippy.

I’m not a big fan of horror. But I am a huge fan of stories — any story — where there is a massive right-angle turn at the end. That’s what I love most about EscapePod and, quite frankly, have found the least appealing about (checking the spelling) Pseudopod.

But that was then. This is now. Great story. Great reading. Keep ‘em coming!

I thought this story was excellent. I was a little annoyed by some of the editing of the reading in the beginning, but it smoothed out as time passed. But overall, great reading, great story.

Overall, though, I’d again have to say that this story’s deviation from traditional horror, mixed with an imaginative take on an ancient mythical creature, made for an engaging–if somewhat clumsy–experience.

I enjoyed Leann’s reading as well. Please get her back for more!

I thought her reading of Mara was great, but Roy lacked emotion. He didn’t seem very shaken up by anything. Mur’s bright reading of the outro hurt the creepy vibe I had going on, too. Though how much responsiblity does she have once the story is done?

Outside of that, the reading was wonderful, too. I have to wonder if the staking was Roy’s deepest desire or not. Mara (sp?) said he was ready, but…there’s a lot left open, and a lot up for discussion.

ComputerKing, it didn’t sound like he was out of desire, but completely terrified of it. He still had the temptation, but would run away when he got too close. He was probably one more “meeting” from his deepest desire, but sane enough to know that it was too sick to bring to life. Going on that, it’s kinda fun to think of what his deepest desire is.

This is the best, and the narrator was PERFECT for this story. I loved the way she read, her voice and expresscions were again, perfect

This is one of my two favorites so far. Makes me wonder what really is on the minds of some of the men I’ve dated. LOL

I totally did NOT expect the ending…

I think not.

She mentioned that some men had fantasies of violence, and that when they went to the final level, they could possibly burn out, leaving them with no desire.

I have a few clues that she still exists:

First, when he was staking and beheading her, he mentioned that he never wanted to “enact that fantasy again”.

Second, Mara said that mere flesh wasn’t good enough for him, and that he was close to his deepest desire.

Third, she said that the deepest desire was often something deeply suppressed from far in the past, sometimes tied to the first sexual urge. Note the goth babysitter letting him watch horror movies and fucking her boyfriend on his parents’ waterbed.

Finally, The description of his life after the Staking sounded a lot like he had burnt out, leaving him with no more desire.

So, Mara is out there, and all her sisters.

And Leann’s reading was exquisite.
